  • Q. How long have you been a Makeup Artist?

I have worked as a professional Makeup Artist for the past 15 years.

    Q. Do you only do makeup for weddings?

Although wedding and special event makeup is a large portion of my business, I provide makeup for photo and video shoots, actor/model head shots, lessons, proms and group parties. My rates and availability vary for each service.

    Q. Can you do makeup on all ethnicities?

Yes, I am highly skilled in working with all women of different ethnicities. My makeup kit is equipped with a range of shades to accomodate all women no matter what skin type or ethnicity.

    Q. What brands of makeup do you use?

As a Makeup Artist my kit has a range of produts from various brands such as MAC, Makeup Forever, Temptu, OCC, Lancome, Stila, and Laura Mercier. New cosmetic brands are always popping up so I am constantly trying new products.

    Q. I have allergies to certain types of makeup. Can you work with my products?

Yes, I do understand that some client's have very sensitive skin and issues with various makeup brands. I am more than happy to work with your own products.

    Q. What is airbrush foundation?

Airbrush foundation is a unique formula of foundation that comes in a wide range of shades to match each and every skin tone. Colors can be mixed to achieve the perfect match. The formula is water based and non comedogenic. The foundation is sprayed as a very fine mist through an airbrush gun that is powered by a compressor. It appears very natural in person and it photographs beautifully. The key benefits of airbrush foundation are the look of a natural and flawless complexion as well as it's long lasting durability. It withstands heat, humidity, sweat and tears. It is transfer resistent and will not come off on your dress or your groom. You can apply it to the body as well to blend in any tan lines or imperfections. I do not recommend that airbrushing be applied to extremely dry skin, severe acne or women in their advanced stages of maturity. These types of skin have different needs and a specific type of foundation is used in each situation.

    Q. What happens if I don't like my makeup or certain aspects of my makeup?

I have been in your shoes so I fully understand that at times it can be difficult to communicate what it is that you like or are looking for. I encourage all of my client's to communicate freely with me on what they like or dislike. I do not have an ego, nor do I take offense. I always want my client's to walk away completely satisfied. I will work with you to resolve any issues with your makeup that you are not comfortable with.

    Q. How far in advance of my wedding should I book a Makeup Artist?

Generally you want to start your search for a Makeup Artist anywhere from 4 to 6 months prior to your wedding date. Some people contact me a year in advance. I do not recommend any longer than a year. The far off future is very unpredictable and I cannot guarantee my availability. For example, if you contact me two years before your wedding date I realistically cannot guarantee that in two years I will be available for your date. Prices may change as well.

    Q. How do I officially book you for my wedding?

I require a $100 non refundable deposit along with a contract that we both sign. The $100 non refundable deposit is applied to the balance due the day of your wedding.

    Q. Do you charge any travel fees?

My travel fees are included for any jobs in NYC. For all other areas and desintations, travel expenses are additional.

    Q. What forms of payment do you accept?

Currently, I only accept cash but I am researching a few options to provide credit cards as a payment option. For wedding deposits I will accept a personal check.

    Q. Do you recommend a makeup trial before my wedding?

A makeup trial is not mandatory. However, it is highly recomended to guarantee you are happy with how your makeup will look and hold up on your wedding day. You also want to avoid any allergic reactions to the products I use.

    Q. Where and when do you do makeup trials?

As a freelancer, my schedule varies week to week. I am flexible with meeting you during the week or weekend based on my availability. I do not work out of a studio. In most cases I can come to your location. I do have a conference room in midtown that I have access to as well.

    Q. How long does a makeup trial take?

A makeup trial takes about an hour and a half. This includes a verbal consult, the actual makeup application followed by any adjustments necessary.

    Q. What can I expect in my makeup trial?

During our makeup trial we will discuss all the aspects of your wedding such as timing, location, style of your dress and hair. I ask questions about your skin and the vision you have of how you would like to look on your wedding day. Based on that I guide you in a direction that will complement you to look your best self on your wedding day. I encourage you to speak openly and honestly with me about your likes and dislikes.

    Q. What should I bring with me to my makeup trial?

I recommend you bring a photo and/or swatch of your dress along with several magazine photos of makeup styles you envision for yourself. Natural and dramatic makeup have various interpretations. A magazine photo gives me a much better idea of your comfort level and style.

    Q. How many people in the bridal party can you accomodate?

I can accomodate up to 8 people on my own. For larger groups I can secure an additional Artist but advance notice is best to guarantee availability.

    Q. How long does each makeup application take?

I set aside at least 1 hour for the bride and at least 30-40 minutes per each additional person. It is always recommended to allow for some buffer time.

    Q. Do you stay with the bride through photos and ceremony?

Once the last person is done with makeup I do a touch up on everyone before I pack up to leave. If you would like me to stay with you for touch ups during your photos and ceremony I charge an additonal rate per hour. This rate begins once the last makeup application is completed.

    Q. Will my makeup hold up all day into the evening?

A professional makeup application holds up beautifully all day into the evening. There are key products used to prime the face and eyes for long lasting, tear proof wear. The only things that you will need to touch up are your lip color, a little blush and any shine from oily skin that can be controlled with blotting papers. You will need to have on hand a lipstick or gloss, a blush and some translucent powder or blotting papers. You can purchase the lip color from me or bring your own for me to look at. I do not provide the blush, powder or blotting papers but I will advise you in advance on what to purchase if you don't already have something comparable.
